So, how well did you do? There was a maximum of 43 points available, but not everyone managed to get the maximum... In fact, only one person got all fifteen questions right!
Section 1: The Quantum Prophecy / New Heroes website
All of the answers to this section were to be found on this very website!
Q1. Judging by physical strength alone, which characters would win the following battles?
One point per correct answer
To find the winners of each of these battles, it was necessary to click on the characters' names to see their "Strength" level - the one with the greatest strength was the winner.
Q2. On what date was Michael Carroll born? (To avoid confusion, please write month as a word, not a number!)
Three points
Answer: 21 March 1966
Found on the Weblog (about half-way down).
Q3. The UK title of one of the New Heroes books is also the name of a place...
What's the other way of spelling that place's name? (Hint: most of the letters
are the same!)
Five points
Answer: Saqqara
Another way of spelling it (much less common) is Saqqarah, which I would also have accepted if anyone had
submitted that as their answer - even though it doesn't have the same number of letters!
Sakkara (or Saqqara) was a huge necropolis (a burial ground; literally a "city of the dead") for
the ancient Egyptian capital city of Memphis. For more information, see the entry in
Wikipedia.

Q7. Name the character on the right.
Two points
Answer: Ro-Jaws
One of my favourite characters from the 2000 AD series Ro-Busters and
A.B.C. Warriors! Found on the
Graphics / 3D / 2000 AD / Miscellaneous

Q8. How many of Michael Carroll's comic strips were drawn by the artist known as Bolt-01?
Two points
Answer: 6
Found on the Comics page.
Bolt-01 is an extremely talented
artist, editor and writer whose work appears in many excellent small-press comics, including Zarjaz,
Solar Wind, Dogbreath, FutureQuake, MangaQuake, Something Wicked...
Q9. What was the name of the magazine that published the short story that inspired Michael Carroll's first published novel?
Five points
Answer: Phase One
This was a slightly tricky one, hence the high pointage! First you needed to find which of my novels was
published first: this could be done by checking through the novels in the
Bibliography.
The first novel is The Last Starship,
published in June 1993. The note for the revised edition says that it also contains the short story
"Pelicos" that inspired the trilogy... So next you had to find
the magazine in which "Pelicos" was first published, which of course could be found by checking through the
short stories page!
