HH: "I have always been an ardent admirer of the works of C.S. Forester and, imitation being the highest form of flattery, I wanted to do an SF parody of Captain Horatio Hornblower ... The story was a pleasure to do and the only dark note came later. I sent a copy to Forester, along with a letter about imitation, flattery, etc., but he never wrote back. In fact he died soon afterwards and I have always felt a bit of guilt that I might have had a hand in the matter." (Best of Harry Harrison).
