The Centipede
Our new favorite toy! Fast, silent and deadly, The Centipede is quite possibly the last word in espionage and subterfuge!
Each of its fourteen segments contains four tiny high-res cameras: two standard video (7 megapixels) and two infra-red (3.3 megapixels), each controlled by its own miniaturized RISC processor. This enables each of The Centipede's segments to operate independently - though of course it's much more effective as a whole unit.
Thanks to its highly-advanced image-recognition and terrain-mapping software, The Centipede can be dropped into a totally unfamiliar location and within minutes it'll not only have mapped the area and logged all possible hazards (and transmitted this data back to base), but it will have calculated the optimum route to its destination. And it's fast, too: The Centipede can reach speeds of forty miles per hour, even over unknown territory!
The Centipede is capable of designating specific tasks to certain segments: for example, in a hostile environment at least two of the segments will raise their legs to conserve power and processing time, and solely focus on the hazards. And if it deems that the situation is extremely dangerous The Centipede may decide to split into two (or more) units in order to increase its chance of success.
Best of all, should any of The Centipede's segments become damaged during an operation, the remaining segments will break away from it and rejoin, leaving the damaged segment behind. Then, once the mission is complete, The Centipede will return for the damaged segment and take it back to base for repair - and this happens totally automatically!
When employed as a sabotage device, The Centipede is capable of carrying out pre-programmed tasks such as dismantling or damaging equipment and vehicles: last week, during the final testing stage, we instructed The Centipede to go to work on Sabrina's car! Two hours later Sabrina went down to the garage to find her Toyota completely disassembled with all the parts neatly laid out in rows - right down to the smallest bolts!
Alternatively, particularly difficult tasks can be remotely controlled when The Centipede is on-site.
